The inaugural collection of Augustus Hare printed ties focuses on paisleys. These vibrant patterns that hail from ancient Babylon and have been interpreted as symbols of fertility for centuries lend themselves to the medium of printed silk. To give our paisleys a slightly unusual edge we have coloured them boldly – these ties are traditional yet exciting.
All of our printed ties are hand screen printed in Macclesfield, the historic home of the English silk industry. This labour intensive process gives the silk a distinctive handle that is not possible with the more common digital printing. All of our cloth is then hand cut and sewn into ties in England.
Our ties are printed on either a 36oz silk or wool challis. This relatively light cloth allows the craft of the printer to best shine through. It also forms a wonderful knot – make sure you pull it tight enough to form the all important dimple.
