Augustus Hare socks embody the design ethos of our ties: playful, elegant and just a little bit eccentric. Our more flamboyant designs are complimented by a selection of solid colours made from a ribbed, mercerized cotton
All of our socks are made in Italy, by the definition of a family business. There are three people who knit Augustus Hare socks: Roberto, his sister and his mother. They work from a small workshop accessible from the ground floor of their house, which they have run since 1970. It takes 5 minutes to knit each pair on a machine, before hand sewing the tip to ensure fit and durability.
Our cotton comes directly from two farms in Egypt, on the banks of the river Nile. The variety grown is long staple Giza 86, widely regarded as the finest variety in the world, praised for strength and fineness of fiber. The hand picked is transferred to Italy for combing, dyeing and spinning into yarn.
